Alexandria training a junior doctor in the operating room/theater.
Alexandria, in the OR putting on a complex frame on a patient to correct a fracture dislocation. Post Operative XR verifying correct placement of the frame and wires.
Plastic Surgery Rotation- Patient presents to Emergency Department with laceration of eyebrow secondary to coming into contact with glass bottle. Plastic Surgery was consulted and I was on call covering any cases for that rotation that reported to the ED that weekend. Patient wound was cleaned, all neurovascular properties were intact. Since the wound was fresh I was able to preform a primary closure, utilizing a technique to prevent scaring. Upon suture removal no visable scar was present.
Other surgical cases, that I have performed from my portfolio. Partial great toe amputation utilizing plastic surgery technique. Older female presented with a wound she had for 35 years. She had been told by multiple medical doctors of varying specialties’ that she needed a below knee amputation because the “wound would never close”. The patient presented to me for toenail treatment, initially; after 9 months of her allowing me to treat her wound it healed and has never reopened.
Total ankle Replacement Intra Op photos and post op x-rays.
Trauma case- patient presented to ED after running over foot with lawnmower while cutting the grass in flip-flop sandals. Patient was immediately taken to the OR (operating room/theater) for an irrigation & debridement, primary closure, reconstruction, tendon re-approximation, and frame placement for fracture.
Bunion surgery th Brachymetatarsal surgery (lengthening of the 4 metatarsal) utilizing an external fixator.
Homeless man presents stating that he cannot feel the front of his foot. He states that he has not taken off his shoes or socks for at least 6 months. Patient states that there was initial pain, “but the pain went away as time passed.” Once we removed the patient’s shoe we saw that the forefoot, skin, and sock had all become one entity. The body had begun the process of auto amputation and all 5 toes had rotted off. In the ED, we removed the forefoot without anesthesia due to patient loss of all sensation of that portion of the foot. Patient was later taken to the OR for a transmetatarsal amputation with application of wound vac.
